HKS released a limited edition series of 10 full titanium exhausts with special tips and we currently have our hands on what may be the very first two of them. We opened up one of the boxes to have Colin, our resident photography expert take some pictures of it. What we found pleasantly surprised us.

Usually I’m a bit of an exhaust snob. Due to the nature of my career, I’ve seen all of the best aftermarket exhausts in the world first hand and as such, I judge by high standards. As a result of this background, most HKS exhausts have never impressed me. Generally speaking, any exhaust that “fakes the funk” by putting a titanium tip on a stainless steel exhaust is not considered to be a high quality exhaust from my point of view. HKS, to their defense, is essentially required to make products for the masses, after all they are a publicly traded company in Japan.  HKS has been very good at making affordable exhausts with good performance and decent quality. They’ve also been good at capitalizing on “trendy” exhausts like wrapping canisters in carbon fiber, putting titanium tips to add bling factor, etc. But HKS has never in my eyes been a top of the line exhaust manufacturer. Until now.

Finally HKS has delivered an exhaust that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Amuse (still the undisputed leader as far as I’m concerned). Just look at the flange of this exhaust…that is some serious exhaust engineering and quality right there!

This exhaust has the makings of greatness, which is always determined in the details. The hollow hangers are there, the tips are extremely unique in design, the welding is excellent and of course it is full titanium for maximum weight savings. With a larger than normal pipe diameter (85mm) and some great engineering, this is the first HKS exhaust that I’d ever want to run on one of my cars. Maybe that’s why I bought the first two of them I had access to for our stock. These wont be around long, but we’ve immortalized them with our pictures.

We put up a nice selection of hi-res pics we took here at our office that you can find here:
