I don’t like choppers. I’ve seen eye catching choppers with interesting themes and I have to respect some of the creativity and fabrication, but something about them just rubs me the wrong way and the Teutuls and commercialization of the scene repulses me further. That said I really like custom motorcycles. I’m particularly a fan of Roland Sand’s work. One of the shops that’s really impressed me is Bratstyle. I won’t pretend to know anything about Bratstyle except what can be found on their website.

Bratstyle clearly draws its inspiration from many sources but they put a distinctly Japanese twist on their work. The example above seems to draw mainly from vintage tt racing (the precursor to modern supermoto) with some street sensibility mixed in. The end result is purposeful, tasteful, well executed and unmistakably Japanese. Other bikes seem to have more traditional American influences, but none are overdone or gaudy and while they draw from vintage style, they aren’t simply replicating it. Take some time looking at some of their completed work. To me this is the two-wheeled embodiment of vintage JDM style taken to the next level.
