Nissan Japan’s Attitude Towards R35 GT-R Tuning

R35 GT-R Nissan Says No Tune For You!

This photo is taken from the R35 GT-R’s owner’s manual. I had heard a lot of stories about Nissan Japan trying to block the aftermarket from tuning the GT-R and setting up all sorts of barriers for owners that modify their car. I’ve been hearing these stories since the car’s release in early December from many people in Japan.

It all seems ridiculous to me, the tuning industry is half of what brought the GT-R the fame it has. I understand it’s Nissan’s flagship and all, and of course they dont want to be shown up by some small boutique tuner who can build a car to outperform Nissan’s version…but going against the aftermarket in such a strong way just seems like a ridiculous move. I’ve heard that Nissan USA will not take as hard of an approach against aftermarket tuning of the R35.

Fortunately regardless of Nissan’s numerous attempts, tuners in Japan don’t listen and neither do their customers. There are plenty of great tuned R35s already and more will be coming, regardless of Nissan’s attempts to stop modification of the R35 GT-R.

On a side note, I too would be against someone modifying a R35 GT-R to look like a 240Z from wangan midnight.

Note: Thanks to Trey Cobb for taking this photo of his owners manual.
