D1 GRAND PRIX ANNOUNCES THE CANCELATION OF 2008 POINTS SERIES

TORRANCE, CA (February 10, 2008) - D1 Grand Prix USA has announced the cancellation of 2008 point series events.

Due to issues and timing from the Japan series, the D1 Grand Prix USA series is being cancelled for the 2008 year. After a successful championship event last November at Irwindale Speedway, we vigorously attempted to launch the 2008 U.S. series but have been unable to due to Japan’s delay on decisions and their focus on the Japan series. Our goal is to continue elevating and expanding the drift culture to the world. But at this time the official word from Japan is to focus on the Japan series for 2008.

It has been formally decided not to hold an event series in the U.S. but the “All Star World Championship” in November at Irwindale speedway is still scheduled to take place.

D1 Grand Prix apologizes for the series cancellation in the U.S. and plans to return the series next year.

Thank you D1 Fans.

I’m not surprised that it was canceled. Honestly do most of the D1 contenders from japan have the budget to race back and forth from Japan and USA all year?

I’m really disappointed about this. I’ve done everything to see D1, I flew to cali, flew to japan, even drove to New Jersey (WTF dirty jerz!? haha)

To hear this really saddens me. Honestly tho, I think its better for them anyway. I mean i loved all of the D1 events I’ve been to. The Jersey event was the best by far. We were just hanging out with all the drivers and having a great time. Thing is, in America I don’t think they can win people over. Even tho there would’ve been no formula D had it not been for D1, Formula D fans and other American drift fans don’t really respect D1 for some reason. They don’t seem to get how much of an honor it is to have Team orange and Koyoma-san come here and put on a show for us. Or what it is to watch a 6 car multi tandem demo run where Imamura crashes, smoky puts the car back together in a few hours, and then he goes back out for another demo run. All that for a demo run!? Hell yes!! this is how awesome D1 is. In formula D a dood could bust a tie rod and he’s out for the rest of the day LOL! Where else can you see 6 sudden death matches in a row between Kuma and Nomuken on a day of exhibition? and sprinkle Koguchi Power in the mix just for some more flavor!!! People just don’t get what an honor all of this truly is.

Look formula D has some great drivers and teams but to me they’ll never be 1/2 of what D1 is. D1 is a competition, yet still they make it fun. Its all for the fans. FD is so boring these days its sad, its all about win win win, I beat you because of the stupid rule and horrible judging! I WIN!

Whats even worse is that D1 is not here anymore. Well I guess I’ll have to travel again to see some action. This November hopefully they can make if for World Allstar Challenge. Otherwise its back to Japan for me to catch some D1 and MSC, who’s coming with?
